At JOY you will learn NEW ways to meet your stress. Most of us think that we manage our stress well, but our bodies tell us a different story. Stress is a large contributor to most of our leading health problems today such as fatigue, burnout, anxiety, addiction, and chronic illness.

“Stress Management” has been taught for years. However, past methods encourage us to cut down on the amount of stress but this solution is often not effective. The truth is STRESS is not the problem but rather the way we RESPOND to the stress in our life creates the danger.

None of us are born knowing how to properly deal with stress…SO WHAT DO WE DO?

JOY will introduce you to new tools that will allow you to respond calmly, clearly, and wisely to the stress that comes along each day. This will allow you to embrace a new way of life that will allow for increased sense of calmness, energy and feelings of peace.

Breaking up with Stress: You are better off without it!
 Stress is WAY more than just an inconvenience that gives you a throbbing headache! Living under chronic stress greatly increases the risk of diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and early death. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of the long-term impacts of stress on the mind and body while learning how to monitor their bodies for better stress management. This session is led by Melissa Harrell who has extensive experience in mental health counseling and advanced training in public health.
Subtle Yoga: No Mat Required!
If you can sit in a chair…this session is for you! The methods of Subtle Yoga uses gentle movement and breath to calm the mind and body – bringing about integration of mind, body, and spirit and is designed for all body types and fitness levels. The  This session is led by Cheryl Harrison who has extensive experience as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Registered Yoga Instructor, and has specialized in working with trauma.
The Gift of Prayer: Ancient Prayer Practices that can change your life
We can find an untapped gift in the prayer practices of old.  We often think of prayer as one sided conversations that allow us to unload our problems.  In holding this narrow view, we miss the gift.  Through the teachings of those long ago, we will uncover how prayer can provide stress relief, a sense of peace and calm, and focus as we move through our lives. This session is led by Pastor Brad Mitchell, an ordained minister and grief counselor.  Pastor Brad understands the challenges of working multiple jobs, raising a family, earning a degree, grieving a loss…all while searching for peace and joy in the chaos of the holidays.
